Working with First Nations Communities
Listening first. Building relationships. Creating useful spaces.
Homes & Granny Flats welcomes opportunities to work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and businesses on housing, accommodation and community infrastructure projects. Our starting point is a conversation: understanding what your community needs, who should be involved and how HGF may be able to contribute.
Acknowledgement of Country Homes & Granny Flats acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we live, work and deliver our homes and buildings. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise the continuing connections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture and community.
Your community. Your priorities. Every community has its own priorities, relationships and ways of making decisions. We recognise the importance of listening to community representatives and respecting local cultural protocols. We welcome early conversations so that any proposal can be considered in the context of the people who will use it, the location and the community’s longer-term plans.
Where HGF may be able to help Homes and accommodation Explore factory-built housing options for families, staff or other accommodation needs, with suitability assessed for the proposed location and use. Spaces for work and community activities Discuss cabins, studios and office spaces for administration, meetings, services or other locally identified needs. Amenities and supporting infrastructure Explore toilet and bathroom facilities, storage containers and sheltered spaces to support community projects and operations. The right solution will depend on the site, intended use, approvals, servicing, transport access and project budget. These considerations form part of the initial discussion.
Starting a conversation We welcome enquiries from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations, housing providers, businesses, Land Councils and other authorised project representatives. You may have a defined project, or simply want to understand the options. Tell us what you are considering, where the project is located and what matters most to your community. Together, we can explore whether HGF is the right fit and identify the next steps. Discuss a community project
